November 20, 2009–Ute fans are urged to wear their crimson gear this coming Monday, Nov. 23 for the annual Rivalry Week Pep Rally beginning at noon on the J. Willard Marriott Library plaza. Join Utah coaches, players, band and cheerleaders as they rally to help the team beat BYU in the annual rivalry football game. There will be free lunch, giveaways, and other fun activities.
At the pep rally, football coach Kyle Whittingham will follow tradition by throwing out the game ball to University of Utah Army ROTC cadets. Then on game day Nov. 28, the cadets will run the ball halfway to Provo and hand it off to BYU ROTC cadets in Draper. Just before kick-off, the game ball will be presented to the referee by Army ROTC representatives from both schools.
Students at the pep rally are invited to participate in the annual Rivalry Roll and compete for great prizes. For $2.50 they can sponsor a numbered tennis ball and donate to the Rivalry Week Food Drive. Everyone who donates will be assigned a number that corresponds to one of the tennis balls. The balls will then be rolled down the HPER promenade and the corresponding names for the numbers of the winning three tennis balls will receive a prize. Students must be present to win.
Prizes are:
- 1st place: Half-off one-semester’s tuition
- 2nd place: $100 University Campus Store gift certificate
- 3rd place: $100 Chartwells Meal Pass
