Bennion Center Hosts Mentor/Donor Leadership Forum

April 7, 2009 – The Lowell Bennion Community Service Center at the University of Utah will bring together University of Utah students with community leaders from diverse fields in the first of what is to be an annual mentor/donor leadership forum. Leaders will facilitate round table discussions addressing topics such as leadership, service, philanthropy and the importance of civic engagement at this time in our community.

The event will take place Friday, April 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Salt Lake City and County Building Main Level (451 S. State Street). Participation is free and open to U students but registration is required. Please RSVP by April 13 to Mary Draper at mdraper@sa.utah.edu or 801-585-0093.

“The forum will give students a chance to connect with community leaders in an intimate and comfortable setting where they can ask questions and get advice from people with great experience who they might not otherwise encounter,” said Mary Draper, Bennion Center development consultant.

Linda Dunn, Bennion Center director, added, “Our students today will be the community leaders of tomorrow and this forum helps students establish support networks and prepare them for future roles. By introducing our students to the best and brightest local leaders in education, philanthropy and other community areas and facilitating mentor-mentee relationships, we are helping ensure that these students commit to a lifetime community and civic engagement.”

After the forum, attendees are invited to view the Bennion Center’s second annual Reflections Gallery, which will be on exhibit April 1 through 22 in the Salt Lake City and County Building gallery space. A reception will be held that same evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., where the public can enjoy art produced by Bennion Center students, faculty, alumni and friends who have shared their reflections on making a difference in the community.

The Bennion Center’s mission is to foster lifelong service and civic participation by engaging the University with the greater community in action, change, and learning.
