February 8, 2007 — The University of Utah Middle East Lecture Series continues with four talks addressing the problems and predicaments facing the Middle East and the United States in the aftermath of the July-August 2006 war in Lebanon. Focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, U.S. policy in the Middle East, and Syria’s place in the new international environment, the lectures will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Hinckley Caucus Room 255 Orson Spenser Hall (OSH). The lectures are free and open to the public.
Ibrahim Karawan, director of the Middle East Center, explains that the series has become one of the most widely followed on campus. “The series covers the major issues of the year and involves diverse perspectives and outlooks on these issues addressed by very prominent speakers.” Karawan credits part of the series” success to the generous support received from University leadership. “It attracts strong interest from the University community and the surrounding community as well,” he says.
