University of Utah Celebrates Utah Vets

One fall night in 1967, near Bong Son in the Republic of Vietnam, Richard S. Dixon – a 20 year old machine gunner and demolition expert – was traveling with 10 members of his squad in a two vehicle convoy when it was ambushed by at least two dozen Viet Cong soldiers. Machine gun fire killed the squad’s commanding officer. Although grievously wounded, Dixon continued to fire his pistol at virtually pointblank range, defending himself and his fellow soldiers.

League of American Cyclists Awards University of Utah Silver Designation

The University of Utah is being recognized as a “Silver” Bicycle Friendly University. The decision involved careful review by the League of American Bicyclists and local judges who are familiar with the university and its peer institutions. The criteria for the award focuses on ‘the five E’s’ – education, enforcement, engineering, encouragement and evaluation of cycling.

University of Utah Dental School Unveils Building Name and Location

University of Utah officials have announced its new School of Dentistry building will be located in Research Park and named after Ray and Tye Noorda in recognition of a $30 million donation. The school was approved by the Utah State Board of Regents in July 2012 and will enroll its first four-year class of 20 students in the Fall of 2013.

U Researchers Win Regional Cleantech Open, Advance to Nationals

University of Utah (the U) startup company Navillum Nanotechnologies has done it again. The company team, led by two U researchers, was named one of the top three groups at the Rocky Mountain regional Cleantech Open last week in Denver. It was the first time in the history of the regional competition that a single team was named as a national finalist and won the sustainability award.
