Eccles Convocation Welcomes Adobe Founder Warnock

On Tuesday, October 1, Adobe Chairman of the Board and Co-Founder John E. Warnock will speak at the 12th annual Spencer Fox Eccles Convocation, which will be held at Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Dumke Auditorium at 11 a.m. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the role of Spencer Eccles in the naming of the School after his grandfather, David Eccles. Convocation speakers are chosen as those who have in some way exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit of David Eccles, and they present current issues in business.

Workers to Celebrate the First Day of Autumn

In an effort to promote a sense of community and environmental awareness, the Bennion Center’s Bend-in-the-River project is hosting an Autumn Equinox celebration on Monday, September 23, from 5:30 p.m. until dark. The event is free and open to the public. Participants will work together to water, mulch and clear weeds at the Bend-in-the-River site, a two-acre urban green space on the Jordan River.

According to 2000 census figures, the Hispanic/Latino population is the largest and most rapidly growing minority group in Utah, increasing from 4.9 percent of the population in 1990 to 9 percent just a decade later. Yet, according to Armando Solorzano, Utah has always been home to Latinos as their origins can be traced back to Native American tribes that inhabited the area 17,000 years ago.

Utah School-Age Population to Increase More Than 50%

Utah’s school-age population (5 – 17 years-old) is expected to increase by 51.7 percent (264,894) by the year 2030, according to a study by the Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR) at the David Eccles School of Business, The University of Utah. The title of the study is, “The Coming Boom in Utah’s School Age and College Age Populations: State and County Scenarios” by T. Ross Reeve, Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, and Pamela S. Perlich, Bureau of Economic and Business Research. The study was released today.

Parking for Utah Football Games Plentiful

Fans driving to Rice-Eccles Stadium for Saturday’s Utah/Indiana football game won’t have any trouble parking, in spite of the construction surrounding the TRAX Light Rail extension to the University Hospital. However, fans are encouraged to plan their trip to Rice-Eccles Stadium in advance, since larger than normal crowds are expected. Season ticket sales are up 10 percent this year over last.
