The J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah offers a vast and rich collection for those researching Middle East studies. Included in the structure is the Aziz S. Atiya Middle East Library, one of the largest of its kind in North America, with holdings of books, manuscripts and periodicals in the languages of Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Turkish.

The University of Utah’s 2003-2004 Tanner Lecture on Human Values will be given by world-renowned humanitarian photojournalist Sebastião Salgado on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 8 p.m., in the University of Utah’s Gardner Hall, located on Presidents Circle. New U of U Writing Center to Help Students Communicate More Fully

In an effort to help students correct their writing and become independently better writers, this fall the University of Utah will introduce a new resource: the Writing Center, which will offer free 20-minute, one-on-one tutoring sessions for U undergraduate students. Staffed by trained undergraduate and graduate students, the center will be open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday; and from noon until 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Students can schedule appointments in advance or receive on-the-spot assistance as walk-ins. The Marriott Library has donated space for the center, which will be located near the east entrance, in what was formerly the third-floor circulation area of the building.

Ute Fans to “Bleed Red for the Community” Prior to Aug. 28 Game

The University of Utah and Utah State University (USU) will hold a competitive blood drive next week, prior to the football season opener on Aug. 28th between the Utes and the Aggies at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Both university communities, long-time, instate rivals, will cooperatively replenish much-needed local blood supplies. The contest winner will be announced during the Thursday evening game. Last year Utah collected 416 units of blood and USU collected 399 units.

MBA Students Learn the Importance of Lending a Hand

The business leaders of tomorrow are rolling up their sleeves for kids with physical and developmental challenges who need help now. On Friday, August 15 approximately 55 new MBA students from the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah will spend their day performing a community service project for Camp Kostopulos. Students will be staining the Camp Kostopulos dock and pavillion, sanding and painting picnic tables, and netting and raking the camp’s pond. Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at about 2:30 p.m.
