Genes account for only 2.5 percent of DNA in the human genetic blueprint, yet diseases can result not only from mutant genes, but from mutations of other DNA that controls genes. University of Utah researchers report in the journal Nature Genetics that they have developed a faster, less expensive technique for mutating those large, non-gene stretches of DNA.

Over 100 west Salt Lake University of Utah graduates will be honored at University Neighborhood Partners 4th annual “Partners in the Park” kick-off evening on Tuesday, June 12 from 6:00p to 8:00p at Jordan Park (1060 S 900 W). University of Utah Vice President for Institutional Advancement Fred Esplin will offer congratulations to the 117 University of Utah 2007 graduates. Also recognized are six West High School graduates who participated in a UNP partnership at West High that are attending college in the fall. Utah House Representative David Litvack is scheduled to attend.

New Task Force on Campus Security

Young to respond to security concerns in light of legislative response to the University’s policies regarding guns on campus and recent events of violence on university campuses. The Task Force on Campus Security will review security issues ranging from individual assault to catastrophic incidents.

“Immigration in Context: A Resource Guide for Utah,” will be distributed to educators, lawmakers, leaders and community members Tuesday May 15. The guide, developed by members of the Honors Think Tank on Immigration, studies the complex issues surrounding the debate over immigration and contains historical, legal, economic, media literacy, and other pertinent information, as well as personal observations from immigrants and members of the think tank.
