Associated Students of the University of Utah Keep Campus Healthy with Free Flu Shots

The Legislative Branch of the Associated Students of the University of Utah has allocated $12,000 to provide free flu vaccinations to 800 students. The majority of the vaccinations will be given to students at the Wellness Fair, Wednesday, Sept. 25, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Field House. The remaining shots will be provided at the Center for Student Wellness to those who don’t have insurance.

Neilsen Foundation, dedicated to helping people with an SCI lead active, high quality lives and to promoting research to find a cure for paralysis.

Hope in Stopping Melanoma from Spreading

Researchers have identified a critical protein role in the metastasis of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer. Inhibition of the protein known as adenosine diphosphate ribosylation factor 6 (ARF6) reduces the spread of melanoma to the lungs in mice, according to a study published in the March 5 issue of Science Signaling online, suggesting that targeting ARF6 may be an effective approach to preventing melanoma metastasis.

University of Utah Dental School Unveils Building Name and Location

University of Utah officials have announced its new School of Dentistry building will be located in Research Park and named after Ray and Tye Noorda in recognition of a $30 million donation. The school was approved by the Utah State Board of Regents in July 2012 and will enroll its first four-year class of 20 students in the Fall of 2013.

John A. Moran Eye Center Enhances Education with New Eye Surgery Simulator

Beginning in September, ophthalmology residents at the John A. Moran Eye Center will have the unique opportunity to acquire specific surgical skills prior to caring for patients in a clinic setting. With generous donations, Moran Eye Center was able to purchase a state-of-the-art eye surgery simulator to help enhance education and training programs.
