Squeezing Light into Metals

Using an inexpensive inkjet printer, University of Utah electrical engineers produced microscopic structures that use light in metals to carry information. This new technique, which controls electrical conductivity within such microstructures, could be used to rapidly fabricate superfast components in electronic devices, make wireless technology faster or print magnetic materials.

U Grad Student Named 2014 Gates Cambridge Scholar

Annika Pecchia-Bekkum, a 2013 graduate of the University of Utah and current graduate student, has been awarded a prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a Ph.D. in medical science at the University of Cambridge. She is the second Gates Cambridge Scholar for the University of Utah, and the first to have completed undergraduate degrees at the U.
