The U’s Economic Impact includes 17 Start-up Companies in 2007

The University of Utah is an economic engine for the State of Utah and 2007 fiscal year-end results prove it. Seventeen companies were launched from technologies developed at The University of Utah within the last year. The companies not only help move research forward through the licensing royalty revenue they bring in, but they provide jobs for the people of Utah and help to strengthen the economy in the state. The 17 companies are based on research in fields such as medicinal sciences, engineering, and fine arts.

Osher Institute at U of U Launches 4th Year of Lifelong Learning for Mature Adults

The Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning at The University of Utah will begin its fourth year with a number of exciting new options designed to be inclusive of a wide range of people. New membership options, as well as new scholarships, mean that Utahns of all income ranges will be able to take advantage of the benefits of Osher: meeting new, interesting, engaged and engaging people; keeping the mind active by learning new things or exploring areas of interest; and learning with a peer group 50 and over in a relaxed atmosphere without the pressure of grades or a competitive environment. Classes are offered in two easily accessible locations – Salt Lake City and Bountiful – with free parking at both locations.

Utah Celebrates 100 years of Earthquake Recording

Utah’s earth science community is today celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the installation of this state’s first seismographs. A commemorative program was held at the James E. Talmage Building on the campus of the University of Utah. Talmage was the originator of earthquake recording in Utah.

UTAH MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND PHYSICS DEPARTMENT PARTNERSHIP MAKES FOR FREE FAMILY FUN

Free Family Monday at the Utah Museum of Natural History at the University of Utah has families in constant motion….bouncing balls off walls, launching small rockets, flying mini-helicopters and more as they learn about the physics of our world. This new program is a partnership with the U of U’s Physics Department and is brought to the community through the Salt Lake County’s Zoo, Arts & Parks (ZAP) program.
