Robots vs. Zombies at the U

Freshmen will send robots to attack zombie targets. Sophomores will race trains powered by compressed air. Robots built by juniors will play Capture the Flag. And seniors will display their design projects, including a blood-vessel testing chamber, a hybrid solar and wind power station, and a magnetically guided cochlear implant for the deaf.

Turmoil in the Middle East

Senator George Mitchell, former U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace, will be the keynote speaker at the 2012 World Leaders Lecture Forum, sponsored by the University of Utah’s Tanner Humanities Center. Mitchell’s lecture, titled “Turmoil in the Middle East: Its Effect on U.S. Foreign Policy,” will be held on Thursday, April 19 at 10 a.m. in Libby Gardner Hall, 1375 E. Presidents Circle. This event is free and open to the public.

Big Bucks for Big Data

The University of Utah’s Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute will receive $2.25 million over five years from the U.S. Department of Energy as part of the Obama Administration’s effort to prevent researchers from drowning in massive amounts of information known as “big data.”
