March 11, 2005 –The Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library presents InfoFair 2005, an annual event sponsored by the University of Utah Health Sciences Center that provides up-to-date information on computer applications, resources and services as well as a glimpse into the future of computers and computing in the health sciences. This year’s event is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29, 2005 and centers on building partnerships and bridging disciplines.
InfoFair 2005 features Palmer Taylor, Ph.D., Associate Vice Chancellor of the Health Sciences at the University of California, San Diego, as the Clifford C. Snyder, M.D. and Mary Snyder Lecturer. Dr. Taylor will discuss coordinated training among the health care professions particularly in terms of curriculum design within health sciences educational settings. This coincides with the near completion of the new Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center which contains large and small classrooms and a multidisciplinary clinical area enhanced with new training technologies that simulate an outpatient clinic setting.
A Meet the Experts panel discussion follows Dr. Taylor’s lecture. Panelists include Susan Beck, APRN, Ph.D., Donald Blumenthal, Ph.D., Lynn Jorde, Ph.D. and Larry Reimer, M.D., with moderator Wayne J. Peay–all are members of the faculty at the University of Utah. The University of Utah Bookstore and the Office of Software Licensing will also exhibit products on the main level of the Eccles Health Sciences Library from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Sandra Haak, APRN, Ph.D. and Caroline Milne, M.D., faculty at the University of Utah, start off the afternoon sessions at 1:00 p.m. with a presentation describing the clinical practice area in the new Health Sciences Education Building. A second afternoon session follows at 2:30 p.m. with an overview of the new teaching technologies available in the Health Sciences Education Building. Nancy Lombardo, Wayne Peay and Hang Wong, faculty at Eccles Health Sciences Library, will present.
