November 10, 2009 — The David Eccles School of Business (DESB) Professional MBA program has been named one of the nation’s best by “BusinessWeek” magazine. The DESB Professional MBA ranks 50 in the nation overall, making the program the only “BusinessWeek” ranked part-time MBA program in Utah.
One of the greatest strengths of the Professional MBA program is the success of its students, indicated by the 25 percent increase in the average salary of graduates. The program earned other distinctions as well. It placed sixth (97%) for highest program graduation rate and 11th in the percentage of tenured faculty teaching in the program, and was rated a “best” for job changers. Some 99 programs were evaluated in the rankings survey.
The overall ranking was based on three factors: academic quality, post-MBA outcomes and a survey of MBA student satisfaction.
“We are very proud to be named on the list,” said David Eccles School of Business Dean Taylor Randall. “To be ranked in the top 50 is a testament to our growing structure as one of the world’s leading resources for business education. The ranking validates the rigorous experiential education, leadership assessment and global perspective that DESB provides for MBA candidates.”
At the center of the DESB 48-credit-hour program is a curriculum with a foundation in business disciplines, a core that integrates these principles and the freedom to choose electives that further a student’s career goals.
“The ranking is an external endorsement of the quality of our faculty, our curriculum and our graduates,” said Brad Vierig, assistant dean of executive education.
Most of the DESB Professional MBA students work full-time and have family obligations. The DESB works to accommodate their needs by providing an evening class schedule. “We feel that our program is attractive to employed students who seek personal attention from dedicated faculty and have great flexibility in the selection of courses,” said Vierig.
The Professional MBA program is one of eight master’s degree programs offered at the David Eccles School of Business.
Information sessions for the Professional MBA program will be held December 1, 2009 and January 20, 2010. For more information, call 801-581-5577 or e-mail pmba@utah.edu.
