Sept. 10, 2010 – Utah families will have an
opportunity to participate in hundreds of healthy activities during Be
Well Utah: A Family Health Week, September 13-18, 2010. Presented by
University of Utah Health Care and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah,
Be Well Utah will feature complimentary health screenings, informative
lectures with health care experts, and activities to encourage people to
make healthy choices. Events will take place at various locations
around the U of U campus and the surrounding community, culminating with
a fair on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Fort Douglas on the U of U campus. All
activities are free.
“The purpose of Be Well Utah is to encourage Utah families to make
healthy choices for their physical and mental well-being,” said Mary
Talboys, LCSW, chair of Be Well Utah and service director for the
University’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. “This five-day event is the
largest free health fair in the state and has something for everyone in
the family, from kids to seniors.”

Be Well Utah Schedule
Family Health Week, Monday-Thursday, Sept. 13-16
Complimentary health screenings, family activities, and informative
lectures by health experts at various locations around the U of U campus
and the surrounding community. Events include:
* Family Night at Red Butte Garden – An evening of activities on
Monday, Sept. 13 beginning at 4:30 p.m. with a family hike, followed by a
meet-and-greet with Curious George and babysitter training.
* Be Well Utah at the Gateway – On Tuesday, Sept. 14 beginning at 4
p.m. featuring yoga, cooking demos, storytelling, Discovery Gateway
activities, and more!
* Partners in Health – Explore wellness topics for men and women,
interactive presentations, and enjoy light refreshments on Wednesday,
Sept. 15 at the Moran Eye Center beginning at 6 p.m.
* Tai Chi on the Plaza – A Tai Chi Yoga movement workshop on
Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Marriott Library East
Plaza on the U of U campus. This class will focus on moving and sitting
meditation, exercise, and breathing techniques.
* Focus on Seniors – Brain health, nutrition, exercise, and more for
seniors. Thursday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sunday Anderson
Senior Center, 868 W. 900 South.
Saturday Fair Activities, Sept. 18
* Family Bike Event – Bike rodeo and family bike ride from 8 to 10
a.m. at Smith’s Food and Drug Store, 876 E. 800 South.
* Be Well Utah Health Fair – Held outdoors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
on the Stillwell Field at Fort Douglas on the U of U campus.
