President Obama to Give Medal to U Chemist


National Medal of Science to University of Utah chemist Peter Stang.

Oct. 20, 2011 – President Barack Obama will present a National Medal of Science to University of Utah chemist Peter Stang during a White House ceremony at noon MDT Friday that will be aired via webcast and available to local TV stations via a live satellite feed.

Stang will be honored along with six other winners of the National Medal of Science and five winners of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. The White House says these are “the highest honors bestowed by the United States government on scientists, engineers, and inventors.”

During the ceremony, the president also will announce additional steps to speed the process of moving new ideas from the laboratory to the marketplace, according to the White House Press Office.

The ceremony begins at noon MDT (2 p.m. EDT) in the East Room of the White House. The satellite feed will be a two-camera switched feed live from the East Room.
