Union Board and ASUU to Host Grand Opening of the Campus Organization Resource Center (the CORC)

January 15, 2004 — The Union Board of the A. Ray Olpin University Union and the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) at the University of Utah will host the grand opening for the Campus Organization Resource Center (the CORC) located on the fourth floor of the University Union. The event is set to take place on January 21st, 2004 at 12:30 in the afternoon in the K-UTE Listening Lounge on the fourth floor of the University Union.

The event will include three speakers-a representative from ASUU, one representative from the Union Board, and Barbara Snyder, Vice President of Student Affairs at the University of Utah. After brief remarks, a ribbon cutting ceremony will commence, followed by a reception with light refreshments.

The CORC is a joint effort by the Union Board and ASUU to provide adequate facilities for student groups to operate. The facility is located on the fourth floor of the Student Union in the area once known as the Cork Room, named in the sixties and known as a place for the free flowing of ideas. The new name was chosen to reflect the nostalgia of the space.

The facility was completely renovated in a modern contemporary style to give the space a distinct look that students will enjoy for years to come. During the renovation, the space was fitted with 20 private cubicles and nine open workstations with a computer at each. In addition, there is lounge space for students to relax, a board table for meetings, and an area for an office assistant. Storage cupboards were also installed for student groups to use as a base of operations.

The space will be staffed during the hours of operation with an assistant who will oversee day-to-day operations of the space and assist student groups with their needs and manage the phones. The United Leadership Council (ULC) under the direction of Spencer Ricks is also providing free printing. The space also offers various supplies to allow the groups to perform necessary tasks.

The Union Board and ASUU are thrilled to support such a unique space for our campus that further meets the needs and desires of students. The Union Board is the governing body of the University Union and consists of the 7 student members of the Union Programming Council (UPC), various student representatives, and representatives from faculty and staff on campus. The Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) is the student government of the University, striving to serve students in all aspects of student life.
