September 26, 2003 — University Hospitals & Clinics has won the Consumer Choice Award for the Salt Lake City metropolitan area for the fifth consecutive year-the only Utah hospital to receive the award for 2003.
University Hospital received top honors in four major categories: best doctors, best nurses, best overall quality, and best image and reputation.
National Research Corporation (NRC), a leading company that measures health-care performance, polled more than 140,000 households nationwide to determine the top 176 hospitals. In the Salt Lake metro area, NRC surveyed people in Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber Counties.
University Hospital’s top rankings reflect the dedication and hard work of the staff, according to Richard A. Fullmer, executive director.
“What an honor to receive this award for the fifth straight year,” Fullmer said. “Our own patient surveys indicate overwhelmingly that most University Hospital patients would again choose our facilities for their health care.
In addition to top honors in the four main categories, University Hospital also was judged the best in orthopedics, neurology, oncology, mental health services, physical therapy, technology and equipment, widest range of services, community health programs, and most used Web site.
The award reflects the growing role consumers play in the selection of their health care, according to NRC.
