University of Utah Celebrates International Week


Feb. 24, 2006 — The International Center at the University of Utah will host the 2006 International Week celebration Monday, February 27, through Friday, March 3. University President, Michael K. Young, will kick off the week long festivities on Monday at noon in the Union building dining area by announcing the names of fifteen study abroad scholarship winners. Immediately following Young’s remarks the African Student Association will present “Africa Day” featuring African inspired performances and food. International Week events highlight international students at the University as well as international opportunities for University of Utah students, staff and faculty. This year’s events include:



Tues. Feb. 28 – “Europe by Design: Timeless Elements Making People Feel Alive” a slide show presentation by Dr. Herman Peine.
Wed. Mar. 1 – Focus on Latin America with information tables on various Latin American Countries and a live Salsa demonstration. In addition a workshop on resume writing and interviewing techniques will be presented.
Thurs. Mar. 2 – The International Center will highlight festivals from Asia. That evening a presentation will be given to international students titled “Relationships, Making Friends with Americans, and Dealing with Homesickness.”
Fri. Mar. 3 – Associated Students of the University of Utah Diversity Board will host an International Tea Celebration. Teas from around the world will be sampled.

In addition an international film festival will run throughout the week.


International Week will culminate on Friday evening March 3 with “Crimson Nights/International Nights” featuring performances from students and professional groups representing countries from around the world. It is anticipated that 5,000 University students will attend this event.


The mission of the International Center is to support the academic, research, and community service mission of the University of Utah by providing opportunities for all students, faculty and staff to incorporate an international, multi-cultural dimension into their academic and professional lives through study, service, work and travel abroad.
