February 29, 2008-On March 5, Peter Schuck, a renowned immigration law specialist and professor at Yale Law School, will share his expertise with the public at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law’s periodic Social Summit. The event will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Squatters Restaurant, 147 W. 300 South in Salt Lake City. Cost is $10 per person.
“Peter Schuck is the preeminent scholar in the fields of immigration, citizenship and refugee law in the nation,” said Hiram Chodosh, dean of the S.J. Quinney College of Law. “He will provide the audience with an insightful and thoughtful critique of the various reform proposals advanced by major Presidential campaigns. Immigration reform affects us all locally and nationally, and Professor Schuck’s expert commentary and direct exchange with local community leaders will help inform our views and policies.”
Schuck, the Simeon E. Baldwin Professor of Law at Yale University, is the author or editor of numerous books including Targeting in Social Programs: Avoiding Bad Bets, Removing Bad Apples; Meditations of a Militant Moderate: Cool Views on Hot Topics; Immigration Stories; and Foundations of Administrative Law. He is a member of the American Law Institute’s advisory committee for the Restatement of Torts (Third), Basic Principles, and a contributing editor to The American Lawyer.
The Social Summits are sponsored by the S.J. Quinney College of Law and are designed to encourage dialogue on the important issues of the day in an informal setting. Past events have included Chibli Mallat, a faculty member at the S.J. Quinney College of Law and presidential candidate in his native Lebanon discussing the topic of Middle East peace. The March 5 event is open to the public.
