U Physician Christopher Peters, M.D., Named to New George S. Eccles Endowed Chair in Orthopaedics

At first glance, clinician-researcher Christopher Peters, M.D., and fundraising professional Arthur Swindle don’t appear to have much in common. But looks can be deceiving. Admiration and appreciation for the talents and dedication of both have fostered a $1 million grant from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation to the University of Utah’s Department of Orthopaedics. The gift, announced today, creates a prestigious endowed chair to provide perpetual support for innovation among the U’s top Orthopaedics faculty.

University of Utah to Honor 2010 Diversity Graduates

One of the largest graduating classes of underrepresented students in the University of Utah’s history will receive degrees during the 2010 graduation ceremony on Friday, May 7, at 9 a.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. This year 373 underrepresented, self-identified students of color will graduate with 259 undergraduate degrees and 91 graduate degrees, with 13 and 10 students graduating in law and medicine respectively. The graduation procession will begin at 8:20 a.m. Tickets are not required.

2010 Rosenblatt Prize Awarded to Computer Scientist and Director of SCI Institute

Christopher R. Johnson, distinguished professor of computer science and director of the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah, was honored at today’s university commencement ceremonies with the Rosenblatt Prize for Excellence, the U’s most prestigious award. The $40,000 gift is presented annually to a faculty member who displays excellence in teaching, research and administrative efforts.
